Your lover's lover's alibi
Jun. 18th, 2014 11:51 pmSévérine's nails tapped along the edge of her diminutive phone, indecision holding her a moment as she considered what she was about to do. Had it been a matter of manipulation, of a seduction meant only to make payment on some past or future debt, the call she was then about to make would have been made sooner. In other circumstances with that collar still felt heavy around her throat, it would have been an easy play to make.
As certain as she was that he had taken the measure of her in that first meeting, she had done the same for him. As frayed around the edges as the man was, seeming to be held together in half bad decision and good intention, his weakness for a damsel and a dragon practically screamed out to her. It would be so easy to make a feint in that direction, to press herself against him and ask him to follow through on his offer of help.
But circumstances were not as they had been in that casino in Singapore. She had an escape. She had...something far better.
She smiled as she keyed in the number she had memorized off his card and pressed the green SEND button with the pad of her thumb.
She waited through the rings, allowing him to answer before she told him simply and with no mystery as to her intention in her voice, "Invite me to your room."
